Compare the Paul and Yumi 50cm pendant lampshades: one is a graphic fabric shade for dining tables, the other a linen lantern-style shade with a black bow for side tables and soft mood lighting.
Quick answer
Choose the Paul pendant lampshade if you want a colorful, graphic focal point above a dining table or reading corner. Choose the Yumi linen lampshade if you prefer a softer Japanese lantern look with a black bow detail for a bedside or side table.
Placement: dining table vs side table
The Paul lampshade is designed to sit above a dining table or brighten a cozy reading corner, so it suits a central, statement position. The Yumi lampshade is suggested for a bedside or side table, where its lantern shape and bow detail read as a softer accent. If your room needs one strong focal point over a table, Paul fits that role; if you want a gentle layer near a chair or bed, Yumi is the better match.
Style: graphic fabric vs linen lantern
Paul is described as adding a colorful, graphic touch, making it a good choice when you want the shade itself to be part of the room's pattern and color story. Yumi is a linen shade with a Japanese lantern feel and a small black bow, so it brings texture and a quiet decorative detail rather than a bold print. Neither is inherently better; the trade-off is visual impact versus understated texture.
Pairing and layering
Both shades are designed to be combined endlessly by playing with different shapes, sizes and shades, or used alone as a single focal point. That means you can choose Paul for a dining area and Yumi for a side table in the same open space if you want variety without losing coherence. Keep in mind that the catalog does not list specific fabric composition or dimming compatibility, so check those details if they matter for your setup.
Key trade-offs to weigh
- Visual impact: Paul offers a colorful, graphic look; Yumi offers a linen lantern texture with a black bow. Pick Paul if you want the shade to be a focal point, Yumi if you want a quieter accent.
- Placement flexibility: Paul is intended for a dining table or reading corner; Yumi is intended for a bedside or side table. Match the shade to the height and role of the spot rather than forcing one into the other's position. Measure your drop height before ordering; a 50cm shade needs clearance above the surface.
- Budget and material: The Paul shade is listed at USD 52.46 (compared with USD 69.95), while the Yumi linen shade is USD 69.97 (compared with USD 99.95). If linen texture is a priority, Yumi costs more; if you want a graphic fabric look at a lower price, Paul is the practical choice.
